National Volunteers Week

It's National Volunteers Week!

19 - 25 May 2025

This week, we're celebrating the incredible impact of volunteers — from individuals to communities, and from our states to the nation as a whole.

Volunteering isn’t just about giving back — it's also about growing forward. Sometimes you stumble into a volunteer role, and months later realise it sparked a deep passion for a cause you never expected.

Every year, thousands of Australians generously give their time across hundreds of organisations — and each act of service makes a difference.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, here are 5 ideas to get you started:

* Support a local food bank or community kitchen – Help pack hampers, cook meals, or serve those doing it tough.
* Read to children at your local library or school – Programs like Storytime need friendly faces and kind voices.
* Volunteer at an animal shelter – Walk dogs, clean enclosures, or simply offer love and attention to rescued pets.
* Join an environmental clean-up or tree planting day – Perfect for nature lovers and families.
* Mentor or befriend someone in need – Whether it’s youth, elderly residents, or refugees, your friendship can be life-changing.

Every little bit counts. And who knows — you might just discover a new purpose along the way.

Happy National Volunteers Week! Let’s give a big shoutout to all the volunteers making Australia brighter.
